Bulging/Herniated Discs
Treatment for Bulging or Herniated Discs
Camarillo Spine & Nerve Institute has in-depth expertise in a variety of spine and disc conditions that afflict countless residents of Ventura County, CA. When patients suffer from bulging or herniated discs, the pain can be immense, whether they’re moving around or sitting still. We’ve dealt with all sorts of disc issues and treated them to relieve the pain and fix the bulge or rupture. Through spinal decompression, as a treatment example, the damage of the bulge or herniation gets resolved when we stretch the spine to allow the condition to correct itself and heal properly. Dr. Dooman and the staff at our wellness center have ample experience performing treatment methods that effectively alleviate the discomfort. You might suffer from numbness, tingling, weakness, or severe pain from the escaped nucleus pulposus (the jelly-like center of the disc) impinging on your nerve roots. With our help, you can restore your discs and get back to walking and moving free of pain again.

Defining a Bulging or Herniated Disc
Between each of your vertebrae, you have discs that provide shock absorption and flexibility in your spine. The annulus fibrosis is the thick, fibrous outer-disc wall that surrounds the nucleus pulposus, which is a jelly-like center. When a disc experiences a tremendous amount of stress, the result can sometimes be a bulging disc. This occurs when the disc wall is weakened enough that it allows the disc to protrude or bulge out, and it presses painfully against the surrounding nerves. When the disc wall tears due to immense pressure, it can allow the nucleus pulposus to stick out, which is called a herniated disc. The protruding nucleus pulposus may also press on the nerves and inflict pain, as well as tingling, numbness, or weakness that we associate with sciatic pain. With nonsurgical spinal decompression, we gently stretch the spine, and a vacuum-like effect causes the protruding tissue to return to the discs. The increase in blood flow, oxygen, and nutrients aids in the healing process, as well.
